What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a primary health care profession that specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and management of conditions that are due to mechanical dysfunction of joints, muscles and their affect on the nervous system. Chiropractic is a holistic form of treatment, your state of health and your lifestyle will be taken into account–not just your symptoms–to identify the cause of your pain.

All members of the British Chiropractic Association must have completed at least a four year full time internationally accredited undergraduate course. Chiropractic is regulated by law in the UK and all chiropractors must be registered with the General Chiropractic Council.

There are many factors that are associated with having a back/neck pain for example:

  • Hip osteoarthritis
Pain is a warning that your body is not functioning properly, do not ignore it.

There are many forms of treatment including spinal manipulation, trigger point therapy, exercises, ergonomic advice and nutritional advice. Treatment generally does not hurt, however you may have short term discomfort after treatment.

There are three main phases to your care:

  1. Initial intensive care: this first stage aims to provide pain relief, increase mobility and help with postural stability
  2. Rehabilitative care: this stage can help with the complete healing and strengthening of surrounding muscles
  3. Maintenance: Regular check-ups may help to prevent reoccurrences
